Hello everyone, we hope your Thanksgiving holiday was a great one. And, before we knew it…… the concert has arrived! It is going to be a great performance this year, so bring everyone you know! Please read all information below pertaining to call times, drop off times, and other important aspects of our concert.

  2. Dress Rehearsal reminder: Wednesday, Nov. 28th – 4:45 drop off time, 5:00 PM rehearsal begins

We ask that two families bring snack for the rehearsal. Please contact Karen if you are able to help. Thank you

2. MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL FOR WINTER CONCERT

  • WHEN: WEDNEDSAY, NOV. 28TH
  • TIME: 4:45-9:00 PM (please note this call is 15 minutes earlier – thanks!)
  • WHERE: CATHEDRAL BASILICA OF SAN JOSE, 80 SOUTH MARKET ST.
  • WHAT TO WEAR: NO need to wear your concert dress; Warm layers and comfortable, soft sole, quiet shoes.
  • WHAT TO BRING: No food is allowed in cathedral, but please do bring a dinner
  • snack for the break.
  • Black music binder with all music neatly arranged in concert order

Dear Parents,
It is really important that the singers arrive on time. St. Joseph’s Cathedral is a very special and much sought after concert venue. Our rehearsal time is very restricted and expensive – we can’t afford wasting even 10 min. waiting for latecomers.

The warm up for all three choirs will begin at the Parish Hall exactly at 5 PM. Please plan to drop off your singer in front of the Cathedral on Market St. no later than 4:45. Parent volunteers will be standing at the entrance to escort singers to the Parish Hall.

Etiquette – please remind your child to respect the surroundings. No talking, running or eating in the Cathedral. The staff will, of course, be there to supervise as well.

Since the cathedral is very resonant (with a lot of echo!), we ask parents only stay if they are assisting with the concert (tickets, ushers, chaperones, etc)

We thank you for your understanding!

3. CONCERT REMINDERS

  • Please remember your best manners in the Basilica. No running or loud voices in the cathedral or grounds, please.
  • No food is allowed in the cathedral, although water bottles are ok with lids. You need to bring a snack or dinner to eat during the break between rehearsal and concert to eat downstairs in the Parish Hall.
  • Hair – please have long hair pulled back and away from the face. We will review this again at the dress rehearsal.
  • Make up – blush and lipstick at the minimum.
  • Scents: Please DO take a shower. Please DON’T wear scented lotions, hair sprays, cologne, or perfumes. This is really important!

  1. Performance week review  - week of 11/14 – parking and warm up room info
  2. Reminder – December concerts approaching!
  3. News and Accomplishments section of our website
  4. Great news story about Cantabile!

Hi parents,

The office is still waiting for some details about our week from the Orff convention organizers regarding our performance on the 15th. At this point, we assume that all parents will be able to watch Cantabile performance at the Convention. Regarding the double performance on the 15th, all children in cast one will be walking to the Center for Performing arts immediately after our performance. (walking might be faster than trying to drive.)

1. PERFORMANCE WEEK - DAY BY DAY

DATES:

  1. Your singer should have a handout from the Ballet. Please review it thoroughly. In case you have not seen the handouts, they are attached to this SCOOP.
  2. Please make sure your singers has a Carmina badge (they were distributed at the last rehearsal on Wed.)
  3. Please make sure your child has ALL current music in a folder with him/her at all rehearsals and performances. This, of course, includes Carmina Burana, even though it is memorized.
  4. We are not sure if water would be provided. To be on the safe side, please bring a bottle or two as well each night. Thank you!
  5. According to the Ballet administration, no food or drink (besides water) is permitted in rehearsal room. Considering this, please provide your child with a non-messy snack, if he/she needs one.
  6. In our negotiations with the Ballet San Jose, we tried to minimize the time Cantabile singers are in rehearsals/performances. Please be on time – we did not “pad” any of the call times. For instance, 7:30 call time means we start singing at 7:30 – drop your child off at least 10 min prior to that.
  7. Cantabile will not have a separate room for the run of Carmina Burana. It is important that the children respect fellow performers by being quiet and professional in the green room.

TUESDAY NOV. 13TH, CARMINA – BOTH CASTS rehearsal with orchestra

  • 7:30-9:00 PM – REHEARSAL W the symphony and maestro Dwight Oltman, Center for Performing Arts, San Jose, down town. Please provide your child with a snack if you/she thinks it is necessary.)

  • Cast TWO will be singing, cast ONE is watching.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 14TH, 7:30-10:00 PM – DRESS REHEARSAL W/SSV, Ballet San Jose. CPA (this will be a long rehearsal and the children have to stay to the end. Bring home work and snack.) CAST ONE IS SINGING, CAST TWO WATCHING IN THE HALL AND REHEARSING ON STAGE AT THE END

  • 10:00-10:30 – CAST TWO and ONE rehearse on stage (movement and bows)
  • 10:30 – pick up both casts

  • Please, escort your child to the ballroom — The convention center is so big that it’s just too risky to let kids figure out where they are. We will be asking parents to stand at designated areas to guide the singers to where we are.  Again, please give yourself plenty of time for driving, parking and walking through the convention center.
