Hi everyone, and welcome back!  I  had the pleasure this weekend of watching Elena conduct an honor choir at the American Choral Directors Association Southwestern Division Convention in Kansas City, Mo.!  It was a fun convention, and a wonderful chance to attend some choral workshops.  After watching many gifted conductors, I was reminded how lucky we are to have Elena, Shane, and Darva teaching right here at Cantabile, in beautiful Los Altos, California!  I hope you all enjoyed your week off, and I look forward to seeing you all this spring.   – Karen

2. Rehearsal Blog and singers’ emails – Request from Elena

Dear Parents, last week I asked that you print out the first installment of the rehearsal notes blog (it is now posted on Cantabile web site (Youth singers resources-weekly blog-rehearsal notes.) It tells what was rehearsed and lists home practice assignments to help singers who missed a rehearsal to catch up. As I checked last week at the rehearsal, only 4 singers in Vocalise/Ensemble received the sheet from their parents. I understand that every parent is busy with a million things so the children and I discussed a possibility of these files being sent to the singers’ email address directly each week. So far I have only 10 email addresses but hope to receive the rest this week. Please remind your singer to send me a little “hello” email. Meanwhile, please help out by printing out the document found by following this link:

4. FUNDRAISER HAS LAUNCHED!
This last week and this week, collection cans and instruction sheets are being distributed to singers at rehearsals. Below are the instructions as well. Happy Fundraising!!

Cantabile Youth Singers announces its annual fundraising effort, “Change for Music – Music for Change”, in support of the many exciting changes we are experiencing as an organization and the change music has on our everyday lives. This is the “ideal” fundraiser to raise money with little of your time and support program activities directly benefiting each singer.

Each family will be given a collection can and asked to gather loose change from home, family and friends from January to June. We ask each family to attempt to collect a minimum of $50.00 over the course of 4 months. This is easy, only $12.50 a month! If each family, staff member and board member were to achieve the minimum of $50.00 total, Cantabile would raise nearly $6,000!

Keep your collection can at home in a visible location to catch loose change from pockets, under the cushion of the couch, etc.  You can also ask mom or dad to place a collection can on their desk at work and ask grandpa and grandma to keep a collection can at their home and support our efforts. (Extra cans may be obtained by calling/emailing the Cantabile office). Prizes will be awarded to the singer and class raising the most money. Join our effort and support a worthy cause!

Collection Dates - Please bring your collection can to the following rehearsals and volunteers will collect, count, deposit and keep record of your amounts.

  1. March 26 or 27
  2. May 22 for Intermediate/Preparatory
  3. June 4 for Vocalise/Ensemble

5. DECEMBER CONCERT CD’s ARE IN!!
CDs will be distributed at rehearsals the rest of the month. Extra copies were ordered and can be purchased at rehearsals this month or by sending payment to the office, $20 each. Just provide cash, check or charge. Order forms are available on our website at http://www.cantabile.org/youth/admin/forms.shtml#cd  or you can just write a note with your payment. DVDs are not ready at this time but we hope soon.

6. FORMS: REGISTRATION, FOOTHILL AND UNIFORMS
